Good Morning Stewart Family,
Tomorrow is the first day in June and all I hope everyone’s ready! You got it, it’s summer time in the moving business again and here comes the craziness. In fact, approximately 45% of all moves occur between Memorial Day and Labor Day. This means that 17-20 million people are projected to move this summer with an estimated 4 ¼-5 million people using professional movers! So as dispatchers push us to haul more and more tonnage ensure that you don’t start cutting out the little things.
This week I would like to talk about truck cleanliness. This means pads folded neatly, equipment strapped to the wall, and the trailer swept out. I am sure that we have all heard the same argument before “why should I fold the pads I am just going to use them again anyways.” Well my response to that would be, “what do you do with your dirty clothes or the crumb filled dinner table? I mean your just going to use it again anyways, right?
Keep in mind that the average family moves once every 5 years. This means that they likely haven’t seen a mover in quite some time, and showing up to a customer’s home with an organized and neat truck will immediately give the customer a positive perception of the service that they are about to receive, and these positive perceptions will lead to more tips.
Most importantly, folding the pads and maintaining the cleanliness of the trailer will help eliminate the possibility of leaving items on the truck. More often than not we end up paying for so called missing items that were hidden under a mound of pads.
So fold those pads, strap your equipment to the wall, and maintain that clean and professional appearance.
Cheers,
Robert Wright – Claims Manager
