Good Morning Stewart Family:

As the busy season looms closer by the day, Stewart Moving & Storage would like to implement the change where every item that is packed in a box by us will have to be numbered an inventoried separately… April Fools!!! April fools day, or all fools day, is believed to date back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. This changed the date of the new year from April 1st to Jan 1st, and people that were slow to get the news became the butt of jokes and hoaxes. So as we continue into our busy season don’t be fooled by people claiming brand name lost items.

This week I would like to talk about properly identifying make and model numbers for commonly lost items. Now, I know that we have previously addressed the need for make and model on TV’s and other high value items, but today I am primarily referring to vacuums and mattresses. We all know that these two items are typically some of the very last to be loaded. Vacuums are usually left for the customer to use once the rooms are empty, and mattresses typically provide a nice clean tie-off.

However, since these items are some of the last to be loaded, it is common for them to be mixed up in another shipment and lost. Afterwards we end up with a missing item claim. Now, it is ironic that many of these items are claimed to be lost are name brand items. Vacuums that go missing are said to Dysons and mattresses Tempur-pedics. Without a make and model number on the paperwork, we could end up paying $600 for a $100 vacuum, or worse $4,000 for a $500 mattress.

So don’t be fooled and put the make and model of vacuums and mattresses on the inventory and save us all some money.

Cheers,

Robert Wright – Claims Manager
