Local Moving Services We Provide

When looking for local moving services, Stewart Moving & Storage is dedicated to moving you or your business from your old place to your new, even if that means on the same block, across town, or across the state.

  • Home: We offer several local moving services: the first, and the one everyone is most familiar with, is moving your personal possessions from the place where you live to the place where you plan to live. This kind of move can be from any number of kinds of places to live to any kind of place to live: an apartment, a condo, a townhome, a house or, temporarily, a storage unit.
  • Business: Another moving service you might not think as often about is business moving – it takes a moving company to move the items of businesses from one place of business to another, especially if a business is expanding and needs to move into a larger space! Our local moving services help businesses move, too.
  • Packing: One big part of moving that everyone knows about is packing. The good news is that if you don’t want to do part or all your own packing, we can do that for you! Just contact one of our Move Consultants and let them know what you want us to pack and when, and your Move Consultant will take care of the rest.
  • Apartments & Condos: Speaking of apartments and condos – we have all the experience you’ll need to make your move a smooth one, including if it’s into or out of an apartment or a condo. Be sure to talk to a Move Consultant about it and they’ll take all the steps to ensure a move to or from an apartment or condo goes as smoothly as possible.
  • Pickup & Delivery: One little-known moving convenience we provide is pickup and delivery service. You can always call us if you need us to pick up and deliver an item you can’t move on your own!

Local Moving FAQ

  • When should I reach out to a moving company?

As soon as you find out you need to plan a move, you should reach out to local moving services near you – the sooner the better! The summer months are the busiest time of year for moving, so you should contact your local moving services 6-8 weeks before your move. That means that if you need to move in June, July or August, you should give your moving company at least 6-8 weeks’ notice. This will increase the likelihood that you get to pick the exact dates of your move, so it’s better if you plan ahead!

  • I’m busy- why should I get an ‘In-Home Survey’?

The cost of moving your possessions is calculated based on the weight of the items that you move and the time it will take to move those items, and, if you want us to pack your items, the time it takes to pack your items. While we can give you an estimate over the phone, you will get a more accurate estimate from an in-home survey. The quote you receive from a moving company over the phone is just an estimate. When you schedule a no-obligation, in-home survey, your Move Consultant knows what to look for to give you the most accurate estimate for your move. Move Consultants are trained to know how long it takes to move items, and how many boxes your bookcase full of items will take, for example. You can also fill out an online moving estimate form to get a rough estimate of what local moving services would cost and to see if hiring a professional mover is within your budget.

  • Do I need to empty out the drawers of my dresser?

For local moves, you can leave lightweight clothing in drawers. You don’t want to fill drawers with heavy items such as books or heavy mementos because those items can damage the furniture during transit. You also want to make sure to remove valuable or fragile items so that you can pack them properly and ensure their safe arrival to your new home.

  • What information do you need to schedule my move?

You will need to give us the basics: Who, what, when, & where.

    • Who: your contact information and the contact information for a backup, in case you are unreachable during part of your move
    • What: this is where the in-home survey or inventory form comes in – we need to know what we are moving so we can be best prepared with materials, labor, and a large enough truck or trucks for what you are moving.
    • When: Tell us what day you are closing on your house, or what date your lease will expire. Let us know the important dates for your move!
    • Where: This is one of the most critical elements of your move – where we are moving your items to and from. This includes knowing if any of your items will be going into storage, because it will dictate how we prepare your items for your move and how we handle your items.

  • How do I handle payment for my move?

You are required to pay all moving charges prior to delivery of your items to your new home, unless you make different arrangements with us ahead of time. We accept cash, money order, traveler’s check, cashier’s check, and major credit cards. We do not accept personal checks.

  • Do I need to be present during my move?

Yes, you definitely plan to be there for your move! Certainly, our Move Consultant does communicate to the movers all the details you’ve shared with them, but since things can change during a move, our teams are trained to confirm things and follow your directions! You will also need to do a walk-through and sign off on the paperwork, which includes the Inventory sheets and the High Value Inventory form, and make sure nothing was accidentally missed!

  • What if something is damaged, broken, or lost?

You’re protected! When you receive the estimate for your move from your Move Consultant, it will show the different pricing based on the level of protection you choose. In a nutshell, there are two types of coverage: Full Value Protection and Released Value Protection. Although Full Value Protection will cost you a bit more, it’s well worth the peace of mind it provides. Released Value Protection is the alternative and while it comes at no cost to you, the customer, it limits our liability to $0.60 per pound, per article.

  • What do I need to do if something is damaged, broken or lost?

First, let the driver know, if they are still there. Second, contact your Move Coordinator. They will provide you with a claim form to fill out and return. You are on a limited timeframe to complete this and get it back to us so be thorough but make it a priority. We will send a third-party inspector, then we’ll take it from there to make it right.
